Twenty-Something Anxiety

Life as a 25 year old

Did you ever wake up one morning and wonder - OMG what am I doing?? Have that scary feeling that keeps nagging at you asking - What do you want to do for the rest of your life?

Being in your twenties is having those recurring feelings day in and day out, every second of the day. Let me tell you, it is not fun. We have all these plans and goals and yet every time we look at our bank account these goals turn into pipe dreams and anxiety sets in. Many writers have ventured into exploring these rough times. There are TV shows and documentaries, like Spotlight 25 and Quarterlife, talk about how we cope and move forward.

One of my favorite solution and one that is argued about all the time is the solution of moving back home with mommy and daddy or out right depending on them for day to day expenses. Newsweek writer Melody Serafino out-right shuns the “unfortunate” who does this. Even 30 years are staying home. But here are the facts.

I have a good income, good job with decent amount of job security, and most importantly, good credit. I’m considering leaving the nest for my very own home. The bank has pre-approved a home loan of 170,000. You say - Great! Not so much. The average home in my job’s vicinity? A whopping 557,000. Screw the mortgage crisis. It doesn’t even scratch at the surface here.

Needless to say I’m not moving… My rent right now is going into CDs and other savings devises, so in all honest, why would I rent? With my saved money I can stick my tongue out at the bank and by my very own house! (yeah, yeah, yeah - in 2058 yeah but hey, i can dream).
